Game Coding with ScratchJr

ScratchJr is a fun and easy to use introduction to coding that uses a block-based programming language and engaging graphical interface. It is designed for children ages 5 – 7 years and allows them to create their own interactive stories and games. Kids can create characters, control the environment, add music and sound effects, and even work on basic logic with code blocks.

It also provides an introduction to debugging, and how to debug code. With a creative palette of characters and backgrounds, and a library of sounds and music tracks, kids can explore their creativity as they build their own games and stories. ScratchJr is a great way for young kids to learn the basics of coding and develop problem-solving skills.

This Summer

Physical Computing with micro:bit

Introduction to Physical Computing with micro:bit allows students to refresh their knowledge of basic programming concepts (control structures, variables, functions, etc.) to control a physical device. Students will perform basic physical tasks using LEDs, buttons, and sensors to see how computer programming gives physical devices the ability to interact with their environment.

In each session, makers have opportunities to develop knowledge in computer science, engineering, art, and game design and gain exposure to real-world industry concepts and vocabulary. Kids are introduced to text-based programming using micropython.

Our after school programs advances kids from block based coding to text based as they graduate each pathway levels. Students build games and websites to build foundational computer science skills, setting them on a pathway to excel in more advanced programs in high school and beyond.
